What is the 800 MHz Transition Administrator?

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) established the office of the 800 MHz Transition Administrator (TA) to facilitate a smooth transition to the new 800 MHz band plan by having the relocation process managed by an independent party.

What is the 800 MHz Reconfiguration Program?

The primary purpose of the 800 MHz Reconfiguration Program is to end interference on public safety radio systems by separating signals from commercial wireless telephone networks such as Nextel's from radio networks operated by public safety groups and other licensees.

TA Reconfiguration Guidance (April 21, 2005)

The TA has developed guidelines to support reasonable and prudent reconfiguration planning activities while conforming to the FCC's requirements.

Summary guidelines can be found in the Quick Reference Guide and more detailed information in the Reconfiguration Handbook. The Forms referenced in these documents can be accessed by clicking on the "Forms" section on the left hand side. We will shortly be mailing an information packet to affected Wave 1 licensees, which will include the Quick Reference Guide.

Thanks to a partnership with Smart-Traveler Messenger, Code Amber, a broadcaster of Amber Alerts, is extending its reach of child abduction Amber Alerts to mobile devices.

The free service will now be available to wireless subscribers interested in receiving Amber Alerts sent to their wireless devices.

"We know most successful Amber Alerts are resolved when a citizen sees a vehicle involved in the abduction," says Code Amber founder Bryant Harper. "If you're out and about, you're likely to have your cell phone, pager or PDA with you," he says.

Harper says the nationwide wireless alert system is the result of "thousands of requests" to make alerts available via SMS.

Smart-Traveler Messenger's messaging technology will enable Code Amber to send out state-specific and nationwide alerts to mobile phones.

Citizens who wish to be alerted when a child abduction occurs must first sign up at www.codeamber.org.
